وكأنه لم يكتف برؤية احتمالات الخامات فحسب، فضّل سامر طوال حياته أن يتعمق بتفاصيلها. وقع في حب الحجر، بجميع أنواعها، ولعب في حقل الفرص أمامه: الملمس، اللون، الحجم، الكتلة، استدارة السطح و زواياه الحادة والمنحنية. ملعب من الاحتمالات التي تنبع منه أعمال نحتية تروي قصص عن أماكن اختلفت تضاريسها ولغاتها وناسها. أعمال ناعمة في حضورها وفي صلابتها محصنة برموز عن قصص محورها تجربة الفنان الخفية.

لسنوات طويلة، اخترق سامر أسطح الحجر وتعرف على المادة وكأنها رفيقه المفضل: تعلّم منها عن اللين والصمود وتحدي المصاعب حتى ولو بدت أشد قوة منه. وكما العادة بين رفقاء العمر، حلّت شخصياتهما على بعضهم البعض، فازداد سامر انضباط حمله معه في شتى جوانب حياته، كما ازداد الحجر مرونة وسرد خواطر عن العالم من حوله. 

ومهما سها بين دفاتر الرسم والألوان والتصوير، تماماً كالبوصلة في إخلاصها إلى الشمال، يعود سامر مراراً وتكراراً الى الحجر ليتحدث معه عن يومياته ويحفر فيه خرائط خفيه تحمل في لبّها أسرار صانعها.

For Samer Tabbaa, scratching the surface of a material is never enough; he often craves full immersion.
